If you have a small living space and want to decorate your home with natural area rugs but you are not quite sure how to go about it because of space, there are four simple things to keep in mind when you are looking for rugs to put into your home.
The first thing to keep in mind is that you need to start with your floor plan. What type of arrangement do you have for your home? Choose a layout that is going to work well for you and take some measurements. There are four basic layouts to think about when measuring. The first is the Classic layout. If your couch and chairs are flush against the walls then you want to make sure that the rug is big enough to fit under the front legs of all the pieces of furniture. The next layout is the floating layout, which is if your furniture is basically floating in the middle of the room. For this you want to be sure that the rug is big enough to go underneath all the legs of all pieces of your furniture.
Then there is the dining layout for the dining room, for this layout you will want to measure the width and length of your table and add an extra 2 feet to each side. The last layout to think about is the bedroom layout. You want to extend the rug about two thirds past the end of the bed or you can place two runners on each side of a single runner at the foot of the bed.
The next step in the process is making the material work for you. You have to figure out just how much foot traffic each of the room gets and decide what type of material the custom area rugs should be. There are many varieties of rugs to choose from all with different strengths and disabilities. There are sisal, jute and seagrass in terms of natural materials…of course there are other natural fiber rugs to choose from too.
The third thing to keep in mind is to pick your pattern. You have to look at what color your furniture is. Is it a patterned style furniture or is it solid. You want to be sure that your rugs do not clash with your furniture so you want to get something neutral to form a solid foundation to set a layer of textures and patterns and colors.
The last thing you need to think about is keeping the rug in place. You want to be sure and get a good rug pad so that your rug is not constantly sliding all over the floor whenever you move around. The pads will not only keep your rug from sliding around on the floor but give you some extra cushion to walk on as well.
