All our sisal rugs and sisal carpets are made with 100% natural woven fiber with a latex backing. The naturally anti-static, sound-absorbing, flame-retardant, resilient sisal fiber makes it the ideal material for floor covering.

What makes a Sisal rug so popular? The texture of the fabric that is used and the quality of the handcrafted nature of these rugs are what make them so popular in the interior design world of today. The exotic nature of these, all natural rugs is what is driving their popularity in the market today. Because most Sisal rugs are created in Kenya, or Tanzania, where extracts from the agave plant are used to create the fine and long fibers that comprise the durability and high quality, and strength of the Sisal rug structure. About Sisal

Although these types of rugs and carpets are currently regarded as high fashion by today’s consumers and designers looking for floor-coverings the truth is that natural floorings are hardly new. The origins are visible in the ancient Egyptian culture. They took bulrushes from the Nile and wove them into mats.

Sisal plants produce a fiber which is stronger than many other common fibers such as flax, hemp, and jute.

The fibers of sisal natural floor coverings are often left undyed, so they take their color from the plant from which they are made. They can be bleached to offer a lighter, more neutral look. Sisal can also be dyed. This can give the material a subtle hint of color without impairing the natural, undyed look.

Natural Area Rugs have made a commitment to excellence by providing exceptional quality fiber flooring. We select only the finest natural fibers for our area rugs that blend modern technology with classic textile traditions. Nature provides variations of color and fiber thickness which combine to make each of our area rugs truly unique.

"Great quality, excellent service and so much to chose from. Just a wonderful experience dealing with ordering/delivery and would recommend to anyone. We've switched from carpet to hard wood so we will be looking for more rugs soon. The stair treads get so many cool comments--we dig it."

T. chappell Pflugerville, TX, Feb. 2015

"So far, so good with the sisal rugs. I purchased three; one round and two runners. I do note some slight fraying on the runners, which are in high traffic areas. I am not sure if those have recently occurred or if they were there from the start; it may be a natural occurrence of sisal. I am careful when vacuuming so as not to overdo it. They look great and I am very pleased overall. The latex backing keeps them in place on my hardwood floors. Time will tell as to whether they wear well."
