Seagrass rugs are a wonderful addition to any area of your home but as they have a smooth finish we do not recommend them for stairs. It is also recommended that they are not used in very moist or humid conditions as they can be susceptible to mould and mildew.

Seagrass is the least expensive and the most versatile of the natural floor coverings. Seagrass comes from the coastal regions of China and India and is grown in paddy fields. These fields need a flooding of sea-water during its crop cycle.

Seagrass fiber is woven onto latex-backed floor coverings as a simple (half panama) or basket-weave pattern. Seagrass retains the grassy, hay-like scent and coloring of the plant from which it is extracted. However, once the rug is unrolled and installed the odor dissipates over time.
