How to Choose the Right Rug Color for Your Living Space

Area rugs can be tricky but finding the right one can add the perfect finishing touch to any space.  On the other hand, choosing the wrong one can leave the space feeling unfinished or even awkward.  Considering the fact that area rugs can be expensive, making the decision on the right one is something that you want to be sure of.  When you are in the market for a new area rug, there are three main things to keep in mind.

Color

The obvious starting point will be the color of the rug.  If you already have a pattern or color scheme in the space where the rug will be going, you may want to choose a rug that has a single color.  That color should be either a shade that will complement what you already have going on in that space or a neutral color.  On the other hand, if you want to decorate around the rug, choose the rug first and then add complementary accessories and furnishings.

A rug can be as important as the furniture in a room.  Be sure to consider the shades in y
our walls, flooring and other finishes when you are choosing one.  You don’t need to be afraid to choose bright colors or bold patterns though as this can be just what your space needs to take the look of it to the next level of style.

Texture

If there is one thing that is often overlooked when choosing area rugs, it is the texture.  However, this is a vital element.  Rooms that have a mixture of various textures can feel layered and rich.  An easy way to get that look is with the texture of an area rug.  Allow the finishes of your furniture be a guide.  Aim for rugs that will contrast these finishes.  If you have soft fabrics such as velvet, go with a harder material for the area rug…something like sisal.bohemian-red

Size

This is the easiest part of choosing an area rug.  If you are looking for a large one, it needs to fit the seating area of the room that it is meant for.  The idea is to have the furniture on the rug but it can also include just the front legs of the furniture.  The idea here is for your feet to be on the rug when you are seated as opposed to on the bare floor or carpet.

Keeping these things in mind when you are shopping for an area rug will mean that you are staying on the right path.  Check out all of the gorgeous, eco – friendly rugs at Natural Area Rugs for a wide variety of high – quality options.heritage

5 Tips for Creating a Cozier Living Room

As you hosted your friends and family over the Thanksgiving holiday, did you find your space lacking a certain inviting feel? Prepare for the rest of the holiday season by using these five pro tips to cozy up your living room.

Raise Your Curtain Rods

Curtains are a perfect way to add warmth and style to any room, but most people hang them too low. Imbue your living room with a grandiose quality by  raising your curtain rods to about the midpoint between the tops of your windows and the edge of your ceilings, but make sure your curtains are still long  enough to kiss the floor!

This will give the illusion of your windows being larger, making any room feel more sunny, comfortable and bright. Choose a delicate, sheer curtain to  lighten up a room or a heavy fabric in warm-tones for a more snug, inviting living space.

Support a Local Artist

Hanging art on your walls is not only a wonderful way to fill empty space and make your room more inviting, but purchasing art from a local artist is also  an excellent conversation starter. A great place to look for local talent is your favorite café or at events like city art walks.

Generally, you want art that will bring contrast to your space – and don’t be afraid to go BIG. Choose a piece which speaks to you and it will make a world  of difference in creating a home from any house.

Pro Tip: Many people don’t know that wall art is meant to be hung at eye-level! It can be tempting to hang it too high, but even a massive painting is better  hung low, so you can see near the center of the painting while standing six inches away without tilting your head back.

Dress Your Floors

No floor should be left bare, not even a carpeted one. Invite your guests to take off their shoes, sit back and relax with a cozy area rug to curl their toes into. Area rugs make lovely complements to your home décor, allowing you to personalize any room and add some flair where it’s often badly needed, but forgotten.

A natural area rug is an excellent choice for your family and the environment, as they’re safely organic, highly durable and naturally one-of-a-kind. Go bold and snuggly with all-natural shag or wool rugs or choose the defining texture of natural sisal or jute rugs.

For a truly personal touch, create your own custom area rug.

Bring in More Lights

Lights breathe life into a room, and while there is no beating natural light, most homes could use a supplement for those shadowy corners. Choose lamps which cast an inviting yellow light to warm up a room full of cool tones or a white light to brighten up a dark-toned room.

Lamps and light fixtures are a great permanent solution to low-light living rooms which double as gorgeous décor even when not in use. If you want to take it up a notch for a special occasion, skip the lamps and go straight for strings of fairy lights for a soft, enchanting atmosphere.

Throw in Plenty of Pillows

Nothing says comfy like an overstuffed armchair, but if you’re not looking for new furniture right now, you can achieve the same effect with some contrasting throw pillows and soft blankets. Give your guests something to snuggle into by decorating your living room with plump pillows and thick lap blankets.

Not only will this make your space a more comfortable place to relax, it can also add beautiful accents of color to bring cheer into your living room this holiday.

Is it Necessary to Have a Rug Pad for Area Rugs?

People might wonder whether or not a rug pad is necessary for an area rug.  The answer is yes.  There are several reasons for this.

  • Having a rug pad under your area rug makes vacuuming easier. Dirt is the major cause of the degradation of rugs.  Having a rug pad in place will keep the rig from shifting and therefor allow you to pick up more of the dirt than what you would be able to without a rug pad.  This will aide in prolonging the life of your rug.
  • Why would you need a rug pad when you have larger rugs?   With a larger area rugs using a rug pad is helpful for keeping the corners of the rug down and also to make sure that they do not buckle.  People might be of the mind that rug pads are not necessary for larger area rugs because they are less likely to slip.  They may be less likely to slip than smaller ones but they are more prone to wrinkle or buckle at the corners.
  • A rug pad will also give your floor protection. A good quality one will keep the dye from transferring from the rug to the floor.  In some instances, dyes in some rugs can bleed into the floor or even react with the coating that is on your hardwood floor.  Although this is a rare occurrence, it can happen…though it is even rarer when you use a rug that is made from natural fibers…such as a jute rug.
  • Using a rug pad that is thicker will give your rug more support. This will relieve the stress of traffic through the years.  A rug pad that is cushioned will help to prolong the life of your area rugs as well as protecting the floor underneath.

Custom rug pad

There are some instances though when the use of a rug pad is entirely left to the preferences of the customer.  There are some cases when a rug pad might not be necessary because the rug will be able to lay flat while not wrinkling, buckling or slipping, etc.  To check and see if your area rug needs a rug pad, all you have to do is to lay your rug out flat on your floors and see if the rug will slide or shift.  The area rug should be around 7 to 10 feet or larger and thicker than smaller rugs.  Thinner rugs that have a flat weave always need rugs pads since they tend to wrinkle and buckle.

Regardless of the size of your area rug, when you do not use a rug pad, you are leaving your floors unprotected, which means that over time they can be damaged or discolored.

We here at Natural Area Rugs are proud to offer many types of custom and special order rugs.  With the growing trend of flooring that is simply a hard surface, rug sales have also seen an upswing.  As a result, retailers and suppliers are constantly finding creative new ways to offer their rugs in methods that are both effective and simple.

Shop Online

Why would anyone look on the internet as opposed to physically going shopping out of your home?  Aside from the fact that stores online have an overhead that is lower and competition that is greater, you won’t need to get dressed, get in the car and drive to a shop only to battle traffic on the way and too many people in the shop when you get there.  In all actuality, in many instances, because of the competition and lower overhead, you will be able to get rock bottom prices online.  Additionally, you will find the largest selection and choice diversity.  You will be able to find the ideal custom rugs all without needing to leave your home.

So Many Choices

When it comes to looking for custom rugs, having patience is critical.  When you are doing your shopping online, you have so much freedom with things like comparing prices and finding out which deals are the best option.  You never need to settle AND for the savvy shopper who has a passion for getting the most for your money, you will be absolutely amazed at the deals you can find.  Before you begin your search, determine exactly what you can afford to spend and then start shopping around until you find the ideal custom rugs at the best prices.

Natural Rugs

Natural fiber rugs such as seagrass, sisal and wool, can sometimes be more expensive right at the outset.  The thing is though, they are the rugs that will give you the optimal return on your initial investment.  Not only will they last longer, they also age with grace and are the best choice for those who want durability and resistance to stains.  Since most of the time, area rugs are put in high foot traffic areas, being durable is a quality that custom rugs need to have.  Synthetic fibers tend to wear much more quickly than natural fibers and as a result, before you are nearly ready to, it will be time to go rug shopping again.

The natural custom rugs from www.Naturalarearugs.com will remain looking great for many years to come.
