Natural Area Rugs: Committed toTotal Customer Satisfaction

As direct importers of high quality natural fiber rugs, we at Natural Area Rugs take pride in providing customers not only the finest area rugs in the country, but top value for money as well. The following client’s comment best exemplifies our commitment to total customer satisfaction:

“I just wanted to let you know I received my 9’x12’ seagrass basketweave rug this morning and was thrilled.

I had priced the same-style rug locally (Memphis, TN) and they wanted $440, I had to pick it up and it was not a factory stitched hem which looks nicer. My cost from you was $289 complete.

I was hesitant to order from an on-line company and only did so because of your return policy.

Thank you again for a pleasant, unexpected experience.

Seagrass Rugs Decorative and Practical

Considered as the least expensive of all natural fiber rug materials, Seagrass is also regarded as one of the most popular. From living rooms to trade show booths, these rugs have been recommended over and over by floor designers and event coordinators. Besides affordability, seagrass has numerous benefits which other customers tend to overlook.

Since the seagrass fiber is almost impermeable to water, these rugs are naturally stain resistant. They are durable enough to be used for moderate to high traffic areas. Such characteristics make them a favorite of beachfront homeowners who prefer the unique shades and texture of natural fibers but need a rug that can withstand moisture.

Because the seagrass fiber is non-porous, these rugs are left undyed and come in their natural hues of sage and brown. Untainted by any artificial colors, these rugs are hypoallergenic and environmentally friendly.

Natural Area Rugs, the leading supplier of natural floor covering, offers three popular seagrass weaves to choose from, the half-panama, basketweave, and herringbone. With decades of experience in the floor covering business, their experience in natural fibers such as seagrass, sisal, and mountaingrass is unmatched.

Natural Area Rugs offers the finest quality seagrass rugs. By using the latest machinery, their rugs and carpet are guaranteed to be without latex bleeding. Silica gels and desiccants are packed inside each rug to avoid mildew or humidity damage during shipment from the manufacturer to their Los Angeles Warehouse.

So the next time you consider purchasing a new rug, look no further and visit www.naturalarearugs.com.

Why Choose Seagrass?

Seagrass is the most versatile of the natural floor coverings.  Light brown and beige hues with green tinges comprise the colors of naturally occurring seagrass that is grown in paddy fields.  This allows the fibers to be died any variety of colors—or simply left to its own natural hues.  As seagrass features neutral colors, seagrass rugs can accommodate many different styles and atmospheres.

The best part about seagrass rugs, is that they are the least expensive.  Seagrass itself can be found easily and handled to create beautiful carpet weaves.  If you’re looking for quality, durable flooring that’s good for the environment, look no further than Natural Area Rugs’ collection of seagrass rugs.

The Roots of Sisal

Adapted from wikipedia.org

Sisal has been used for many generations to create rugs and carpets. Sisal is commonly called sisal hemp, although it is not really hemp at all: this name was just associated with other fibrous materials. Sisal received its name from the port in Yucatan from which it was shipped. The ancestry and exact geographical origin is unknown, but is now grown worldwide. Sisal is second only to cotton as the most widely grown agro-based fiber in the world due to its outstanding durability.

Sisal fibers can be separated into three grades. The lowest grade sisal is mainly used for paper, the middle grade for ropes and twines, and the highest grade for yarns and carpets. The sisal fibers have a strong affinity for dyes—which makes them very useful in the rug and carpet industry. This versatility allows sisal rugs to be made in a number of color modes. Additionally, sisal does not trap dust since it is static free, which makes sisal carpet very easy to clean. Regular vacuuming will maintain a sisal rug very nicely.

NaturalAreaRugs.com has a great collection of sisal rugs and carpets that exemplify the outstanding qualities of sisal fabric. Since we don’t use any synthetics in our sisal carpets, you receive the highest quality products.

Fan Letter

Here at NaturalAreaRugs.com, we try our very hardest to offer the best products while providing top service; and it’s nice to hear that we’re doing a good job several times a week. We received this email from a customer after a recent purchase with us.

June 9, 2006

You did not meet our expectations. In fact you completely blew them away. We
are not sure if we have ever been this satisfied with a purchase. The
product was better than we expected. It came in less time than expected. It
arrived during a rain storm and was so completed protected by unbelievable
packaging that it was perfectly dry. The cost was about what we had been
expecting to spend but again the quality was superior in every way to what
my wife had been looking for. We would not hesitate in recommending your
company to anyone. My wife is a Real-Estate broker North of Boston and she
just can't stop singing your praises. In a world where just good enough is
the norm you have shown that doing something better than expected is not a
lost cause.

Sincerely,

Phil and Carolyn Sheehan

Survivor: Natural Area Rugs - Flooring to the Extreme

I knew that our natural fiber rugs could withstand a decent amount of abuse, but this recent letter from a customer is a true success story. Take a look:

I bought my 9x12 several months ago. I have since had three floods in my house (Dallas) and each time I dragged my rug outside and dried it out and dragged it back in. The remarkable thing is that my rug is still perfect. No harm was done despite the abuse it suffered. Thank you for such a great and sturdy rug!

Oh, and did we mention our rugs are durable?

Everyone Loves Bamboo

Our bamboo rugs have been very popular among home owners, and it's no wonder.  Here's a letter we received from a fan:

Dear Madam or Sir,

We purchased your bamboo rugs for the living room, and they
are fantastic. We have three cats and a dog, and the bamboo
area rugs are holding up beautifully. They do not collect
pet fur, show scratches, or stain. Thank you for a
fantastic product!

Thanks very much!

Response to Customer: Why Is My Wool Rug Shedding?

One of our customers recently wrote:

“I recently purchased an 8x10 Royal Treasure wool rug and I am happy
with the purchase. But I have a comment/question regarding all of the
shedding that the rug is doing. When will it stop? I bought it so I would
have something soft for my daughter to sit and play on (she is 10 months old)
but the way the rug is pilling/shedding I am afraid she will eat the fuzz -
so I vacuumed it a few times in the first week to pull out the loose
fibers - or so I thought. I am somewhat confused because in the BLOG it is
praising how great wool rugs are for air quality.  Now every horizontal
surface in our room is covered with the loose fibers and I afraid to have my
daughter breathing that in all the time.  Will this shedding ever stop?”

Dear Wool Carpet Owner:

A new wool carpet may actually shed heavily for the first few months of use. Since the porous wool fibers are only connected on one end, it is easy for them to come loose, and they tend to ball up because of static. This typically lasts for a month or two (with regular traffic). Frequent vacuuming will help control the amount of loose fibers that are in the room. It’s true, a baby should not be ingesting large quantities of your new rug, but the air-purifying qualities of wool still stand true. The rug does trap harmful chemicals that may be found in the air. After a few months, the amount of shedding will have greatly decreased, and you will have one beautiful wool rug.

Tips From the Pros: Modern Flooring Alternatives

From Archway Press

It’s called building your “dream home” but sometimes it can become a nightmare. Everyone’s heard the stories of builders installing the wrong this or that, or just plain not following the plans properly. In a project of any kind there are always bound to be mistakes, how many and how bad mostly depends on you. Early planning can save you a lot of headaches and money too. With your house building plans in hand, you can start picking out colors, fabrics, cabinet styles, appliances, bathroom features and other special or custom items early. One of major decisions will be deciding on flooring. Think of your floors (and walls) as the canvas on which you will place your colors and shapes (furniture). You will want your plan to be versatile and a reflection of you.  By exploring new ideas for your residential floor plans  create a tasteful and comfortable environment and save money too.

Carpeting is the most popular type of floor covering today. It however, ages the fastest and requires the most care. And, you can never be sure if it is clean. Do yourself a favor and look at what’s available in contemporary flooring before you just settle for carpeting. Explore the wide range of wood, laminate or tile flooring. There are great products created for beauty as well as easy upkeep to fit every budget.

The current trend in environmentally safe products is affecting the flooring market too. Buyers want natural products that are non-toxic, durable and environmentally friendly. Natural fiber rugs such as jute, sisal and natural grass fiber are anti-static and made from all natural fibers. They are also top choices for long wear and style. They are the height of fashion on wood or tile floors and most importantly, they can be spot cleaned or completely removed for cleaning. Highly collectable, area rugs will give years of service and you will never have to worry about what’s really beneath your feet.

Sleek New Bamboo Rugs

Natural Area Rugs is proud to be the first company in the US to sell four new bamboo rugs, available in the standard sizes: 2’x3’, 2’6”x9’, 3’x5’, 4’x6’, 5’x8’, 6’x9’, and 8’x10’. These rugs are imported exclusively for Natural Area Rugs. All four styles come without a binding, and a dotted, non-slip backing. The “Elite” and “Exquisite” feature wide, high-pressed bamboo pieces with a heavy anti-UV lacquer coating and rounded corners. The “Horizon” and “New Wave” styles feature much smaller natural bamboo pieces, some of which are colored, which are made into a pattern. All four bamboo rugs are naturally stronger and more durable than traditional bamboo rugs. These recent additions to our bamboo collection open up a whole new array of decorating possibilities.

Trees Belong Outside

I recently read an article in Floor Covering Weekly about the recent popularity of indoor/outdoor area rugs, which helped me understand our recent success with our new indoor/outdoor bamboo natural rugs. It said that homeowners are looking to move inside looks to outside locales. Bamboo itself is sought after in design right now; the natural wood makes for a very elegant addition to household areas. Since 2000, there has been a dramatic increase in Americans using outdoor spaces as additional living areas in their homes. The added benefit of outdoor usage appeals to customers looking to find a rug that matches with common outdoor fabrics. And why not have a living area outdoors? With all the recent concern for the environment, it’s no wonder people want to move outside and get back in touch with nature. Why not bring the bamboo outside where it was originally grown? You have to admit, bamboo looks astonishing in sunlight due to its smooth exterior.

The three indoor/outdoor natural bamboo rugs that Natural Area Rugs offers feature a neutral brown color binding that will match a variety of outdoor/patio settings. The bamboo rugs come in three different bamboo-widths: “Chateau” is the narrowest, “Cottage” in the middle, and the “Monterrey” is made with bamboo pieces about an inch thick. The backing of the bamboo carpets is water-resistant polypropylene, which is suitable for outdoors.

Oh, the Benefits of Wool

There are many reasons Natural Area Rugs sells wool rugs. Wool has been used in carpets for many, many years, yet most people don’t know all the great benefits of having a wool carpet in a home.

Wool is very durable, it has excellent wear, resists stains and keeps color well. It also has the ability to restore itself after compression and staining. Wool is also naturally fire retardant and minor burn residue can be brushed away.

On top of these qualities, wool is able to control interior humidity by acting as a natural sponge—absorbing moisture when the climate is humid and releasing moisture when the climate is dry. Because air is able to move through the wool fibers, it actually purifies air as well by neutralizing pollutants (such as formaldehyde, sulpher dioxide and nitrous oxides) by means of its fibers. Wool material does not promote the growth of dust mites or bacteria, unlike other fabrics.

Natural Area Rugs’ blend of wool and sisal creates a very durable, elegant-looking product. The combined durability of wool and sisal make the wool/sisal rugs about as durable as a rug can be. The cross wool/sisal weave creates a beautiful look and a soft feel.

Bindings on Carpets at Natural Area Rugs

Natural Area Rugs offers a few different kinds of bindings on their sisal, seagrass, and mountain grass rugs. We also offer jute, bamboo, and wool rugs that have a 3” mitered-corner, blind-stitch binding (jute has no binding).

The simplest binding style is the top-stitch. It is so called because the stitch is made on top of the binding, and can be seen in plain view. The top stitch binding is usually made showing 1¼” on each edge of the rug

Modern area rugs, custom rugs, and accent rugs can be crafted with either the top-stitch or blind stitch binding. The blind stitch is sewed so that the thread is not visible, and the binding is wrapped around the edge of the carpet. The blind stitch is a little more elegant as the threads are not visible on the binding.

The blind stitch can also be made with mitered corners. To anyone unfamiliar with building techniques, mitering is the process by which two separate perpendicular pieces are bound together at an angle. Blind stitches and mitered corners require much more effort than the top stitch. The blind stitch can be made with anywhere from ½” to 3” of the binding showing on the edge of the area rug.

All of Natural Area Rugscarpets made overseas are manufactured with a 3” blind-stitch binding with mitered-corners.

State of the Art Packaging Techniques Used at Natural Area Rugs

Shipping our sisal, seagrass, jute, bamboo, mountain grass, and wool rugs has been very smooth due to our unique, intense packaging system. Most contemporary rug customers receive their orders in the exact shape that it left our warehouse despite the brutality that packages sometimes receive during the shipping process.

The process works like this:

Each rug is wrapped around a heavy-duty cardboard tube so that no part of the rug will get squished or bent in a harmful manner. We use different size tubes for each of our natural rugs.

After the rug is rolled into a cylinder, the ends of the carpets are wrapped with 1/4” to 1/2” thick foam. This protects the binding and prevents damage on the ends—where most of the damage occurs during shipping. The foam is held in place with plastic film that is rolled around the ends of all our modern area rugs.

The entire carpet roll is then covered with plastic stretch wrap and fit into a 6mm-thick plastic bag (much heavier than any standard garbage bag). The manufacturers also insert silica gel packets in with the natural rugs to keep moisture from ruining the natural fibers as it travels overseas. Finally, two or more carpets are packed in a tough polypropylene woven bag.

No other natural rug dealer secures their goods as extensively—which results in very few complications due to shipping that Natural Area Rugs has to deal with. This allows us to continue to be a leader the natural floor covering industry.

Natural Area Rugs Offers New Sample Binder

We have great news! We have recently received a large shipment of sample binders that contain swatches of the many rugs we offer. This way, you can actually feel and see the many different weave styles and colors. There are 34 samples including a variety of sisal, sea grass, mountain grass and wool-sisal blends. The whole binder can be purchased for $20 and Natural Area Rugs will refund your money with any purchase of $500 or more.

This would be a wise investment for those planning to buy any size sisal, sea grass, mountain grass or wool-sisal area rugs for a new living space.  Its also perfect if you're replacing old or out- of-style rugs for formal convention flooring. The binder even comes with a string so the buyer can hang the portfolio and stand back to view each swatch in comparison to its surroundings. This binder is ideal for interior designers or architects who would like to show natural flooring options to their clients. We'll package and display the different natural fibers  and all you'll have to do is carry it around and show it off.

The other advantage of this binder is that all the swatches are held in one place, so it is very convenient to transport a large number of swatches to different rooms or locations without having to pick up each individual sample—only to be re-displayed in another area. The portfolio folds up easily and is about the size of a textbook when fully compact. This is just another way Natural Area Rugs is trying to reach out to its customers and reinforce its position as a reliable, trustworthy supplier of quality natural flooring.

Manhattan: New Addition to the Kenya Wool/ Sisal Collection

Due to the many demands from interior designers for wool/sisal blend rugs, Natural Area Rugs has added a new rug as part of our Kenya collection, the “Manhattan.” It has a very nice looking black binding (one of the darker sisal/wool rugs that we offer) which is made of 100 percent cotton.
The rug fibers are 53 percent wool, 47 percent sisal and the backing is 100 percent jute. As always, these rugs are made with all natural fibers. As an added benefit, we are able to offer large sizes with the help of our skilled craftsmen. Natural Area Rugs sells the Manhattan in all standard sizes (2x3, 2’6”x9’, 3x5, 4x6, 5x8, 6x9, 8x10, 9x12, and 12x15). Like our other wool/sisal blends, the Manhattan comes with an extra wide binding showing 3” on the rug face with a blind stitch. The bindings have padded edges and mitered corners.

These rugs are recommended for indoor use because sunlight may cause them to fade. This addition will prove to be a beneficial addition to the wool/sisal collection as it will increase the spectrum of dark colors from which to choose. The wool/sisal blend rugs are a great product because they retain their appearance for a long time and are also resistant to stains and abrasions. Wool is the classic choice for floor covering material and has been used since ancient times. Quality, functionality and design are its superior properties. Customers are very satisfied with these carpets. Natural Area Rugs knows quality and we are confident you will love the Manhattan.

Natural Area Rugs has been able to sell the wool/sisal rugs at extremely low prices because we directly import materials that are otherwise very expensive to manufacture in the U.S. That’s why our Kenya Collection has been subtitled “Super Value.” It’s not just a gimmick. We can’t guarantee that the prices at which we are able to sell our carpets are out of this world, but they are definitely out of this country.

Sisal- A Staple Fiber in Natural Flooring

Sisal has been used for centuries to make quality rugs and it’s now becoming very popular again as environmental awareness is increasingly becoming a priority. Natural Area Rugs believes very strongly in environmentally friendly products and continues to be one of the leading distributors of all natural flooring.

Unlike other chemical-ridden synthetic products, sisal rugs deliver flooring satisfaction. The natural sisal threads can be used to create many different designs and can even be easily dyed. The resulting texture of sisal carpets leaves no wonder as to why the fiber has been used for so many generations.

Sisal comes from agave sisalana, a plant which can be found growing in drier climates. Ancient Egyptians used sisal to make many different fabrics. The actual fibers that are used to make sisal are found within the leaves. They are found in bundles that provide the plant’s rigidity. This gives sisal added durability over other natural fibers. Natural Area Rugs specializes in sisal carpets.

Interior designers use sisal because of its adaptability. Natural Area Rugs works with many prestigious designers and fashion companies to provide quality rugs and carpets at unheard of prices. The “natural” look is very popular right now and will continue to lay the foundation for future decorating schemes.
